Abstract

The application of nanotechnology in the agri-food sector is one of the fastest growing fields of nano-research. Innovating and generating technology to produce sufficient quantity and quality of food to feed a rapidly growing world population in modern times will always be the greatest challenge. Nanotechnology opens up a wide range of opportunities in plant biotechnology. Its effects on explant surface disinfection, callus formation, organogenesis, in vitro shoot growth, rooting, metabolite production, somaclonal variation, genetic transformation, cell culture are shown. It is hoped that this critical review can provide the basic background information on nanobiotechnological research, which will allow to move forward with experimentation on nanoparticle applications in this field.
